RIDC is pleased to offer the opportunity to participate in a hybrid internship (in-person and remote) during the Summer of 2026. During the internship, the economic development policy intern will focus on the following projects and tasks:
Impact Project: Evaluating RIDC's progress towards our mission and the economic development and community impacts of our properties/tenants – property taxes paid, payroll taxes paid, jobs created, area employment, workforce development program through tenant interviews, internal RIDC data, and desktop research. Skills: Microsoft Excel, data analysis & data visualizations
Real estate and tech-based economic development initiatives: Supporting RIDC's tech-based economic development initiatives such as the Regional Autonomy and Clean Tech initiatives. (https://ridc.org/what-we-do/autonomy-initiative/)
Collecting and analyzing trends in growth sectors such as manufacturing, autonomy, robotics and life sciences, and supporting RIDC initiatives to support and grow those sectors. Skills: Economic research
Supporting RIDC efforts to spread advanced sector growth and a diversity of family-sustaining job opportunities, especially those that do not require an advanced degree, to distressed areas of the 12-county Pittsburgh region.
Reviewing and evaluating policies relevant to economic development to determine the benefits and impact of any changes that may occur.
Liaising with stakeholders and supporting the President, Senior Vice President, and Economic Development Specialists in working with stakeholders such as county and municipal governments, Community & Industrial Development Corporations, regional economic development organizations and community groups to determine their needs, concerns, and viewpoints, and to understand the key issues for economic growth in Southwestern Pennsylvania as well as for particular RIDC projects.
Gathering data and case studies including quantitative and qualitative data, analyzing for trends or important information that may be useful in formulating new policies and/or positions on relevant issues or target areas for RIDC.
Writing reports and presentations that condense and summarize information and display key evidence for stakeholders to review.
Supporting the public relations team by providing the content for the platforms which RIDC uses to engage with stakeholders regarding real estate assets and community and economic impacts including the RIDC website, social media platform, and other external communications.
Prospective Interns must be able to work at least 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 40 hours a week. Hours are flexible and can be adjusted weekly based on the intern’s class schedule and workload. Interns have the option of completing some assignments independently outside of 9-5 pm work day. This position is Federal Work Study Eligible.
